(Melbourne, FL) Product design and manufacturing firm Jaycon Systems just announced its latest acquisition: a state-of-the-art 3D Printer that could be a game changer on how people in Melbourne do rapid prototyping.

The new 3D printer uses MultiJet Printing (MJP) technology, which is more advanced and precise than the initial FDM and SLA printing types. MJP works similarly to an inkjet printer, but instead of depositing powdered ink, it uses a piezo printhead technology to deposit casting wax or plastic resin that is cured by light. The printhead works first on the horizontal layers and then works its way up until all vertical layers are completed.

"This is not a desktop printer, it is a professional, industrial-grade machine capable of producing high-resolution prototypes" says COO Derek Blankenship. Jaycon's new MJP printer will deliver prototypes similar to those done by CNC, which stands for Computer Numeric Control, currently the highest precision prototyping technology available on the market. The MJP printer, by 3DSystems, offers one of the highest Z-direction resolution, building layers as thin as 32 microns, or 0.032 millimeters. It also offers a large platform, with a maximum build capacity of 11.6 × 8.3 × 5.6 inches.

The technology is also efficient. According to Blankenship, a small prototype may only take Jaycon a couple hours to print, compared to a couple weeks for CNC prototyping. "This allows our customers to test their prototypes and gather feedback before we mass manufacture them" says CEO and Senior Engineer Jiten Chandiramani. "This addition is just one more validation of how we take DFM seriously" Jiten says. Design for Manufacturing, popularly referred to as DFM, is the process of designing and engineering products so they are in their most optimal form for cost-effective and efficient mass production.
